I was recently introduced to a product called Luxiva. It has great results leaving your skin with a soft non-oil glow. It is very inexpensive and doesn't dry out your skin. I have tried proactive, but it excessively dries out my skin, damaging it. I have had results with this product in no less than 4 days. It really works. It has 3 steps, cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. Try it. Go onto merlenorman.com and search for this product.

Garnier Fructis has a nice face care line now that purifies with out drying your skin.
Also I like to use Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne wash and the scrub version (1x a week for the scrub), with the coordinating toner.
It really helps. I also use a vitamin e moisturizer, any vitamin e moisturizer should work pretty well.
hope this helps.

Well first breathe (stress never helped anyone). Water consumption and diet could play a huge role, evaluate what you consume. There are some great products out there that I can suggest.
First is
Sircuit SAVIOR
Problem Skin Cleanser
Non-Sulfate face wash with 2% Salicylic Acid and 5% Lactic Acid to clear pores, exfoliate, soften skin and help prevent blemishes. SaviorTM will thoroughly clean and help keep your skin clear without over-drying or stripping. Formulated with anti-mictobial and anti-bacterial Organic Olive Leaf, Organic Tea Tree Oil, TotarolTM and anti-septic Organic Peppermint.
Free of artificial colors, fragrance, preservatives and always cruelty free.
Immuderm
Dermatologists say it gives healthy skin the power to fight off the things that age us-sun, smoke and stress-to quickly eliminate and regenerate injured or infected cells and to maintain clear, healthy skin.
I promise they are both amazing products that can really help!

First off do not listen to the people who tell you proactive, the celebs are paid to do those commercials and probably don't even use it, it made my skin even worse
I have battled with oily/acne prone skin since high school and have tried every over the counter product and nothing ever worked or was short lived
The best stuff I have found is Dermalogica I use their anti-bac cleanser which is for oily/acne prone skin and I also use their oil control lotion which can also be used as a moisturizer
both work great and have helped extremely in clearing both oil and acne
for rare pimples that do come I put a warm cloth over it for a bit apply a little pressure and then apply any over the counter benzoyl peroxide
good luck!

I empathize with you. You sound a lot like me. But, you can eliminate acne, and reduce the amount of pimples and outbreaks that you have, no matter how many products you may have tried that failed. From the time that I was 13, until the time that I was 36, I suffered from severe acne. I had acne all over my face; and I also had blackheads all over my back. I went to the dermatologist; but he provided little help. All of the topical solutions, including Retina-A, only irritated my skin more. Everyone kept telling me that my acne would disappear once I got older. This was partially true; but although I had less bumps as I aged, the number of blemishes and spots on my face increased. Frustrated by years of acne, I decided to seek an all-natural solution to my bumps and blemishes. I had been a customer of Proactiv and Nature’s Cure for years, and of course they both worked for 1 month or so and then did nothing for the next three months. It seemed as though my acne learned to adapt. But, don’t be dismayed. Your story does not have to be the same as mine. I learned several methods for eliminating acne besides steaming your face, using chemical peels, and using pore strips.
Avoid alcohol, acids, and chemical solutions. Your skin needs to train itself to balance “sebum” and oil and naturally fight bacteria. Alcohols, salicylic acid, Retina-A, and benzoyl peroxide, actually dry the skin; and because they are synthetic, acne-causing bacteria become immune to the chemically created solutions. Why? Because chemical solutions are created to treat the type of bacteria they sought to treat that was in existence when the solutions were made. Unfortunately, bacteria are living organisms and they learn to mutate quickly. When mutation occurs, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide fail.
.
Go all-natural. Essential oils, natural herbs, and natural nutrients are the best way to kill acne. Fight nature by using nature. Essential oils are higher powered and more effective than any acid or peroxide created in a lab that was “derived” from some natural source. They are extremely potent and not harmful to your skin. Furthermore, they actually help to balance sebum without making your skin oily. The best product on the market that has essential oils and kills acne is Beauty 4 Ashes Acne Eliminating Facial Kit. The makers claim that there stuff works overnight; and I have to say, it really does. It exfoliates and cleans your skin brilliantly. This product is also packed with lots of skin healing ingredients, including Aloe Vera. In the two months that used it, my acne and scars literally disappeared. Best yet, in one year, my acne and blemishes have not returned and my pores have shrank. Beauty 4 Ashes has several skin care products created to treat acne, but I recommend ordering their kit first to get a bit of everything. You can find it online at www.discoverb4a.com.
Consider taking flax oil on a regular basis. You need to keep your system clean. But, you don’t need to spend tons of money on vitamins labeled nature’s cure. All you need to do is to flush your system of unnatural chemicals and preservatives that might be triggering your breakouts. You can buy flax oil anywhere. Check out Vitamin Shoppe or WalMart.

Acne is no longer just an issue for young skin - adult-onset acne can persist for people in their 30s, 40s and even beyond. Many factors have influenced this phenomenon - stress, hormonal fluctuations, genetic predispositions and even environmental factors. It happened to me too.
I use Skinlogics from BeautiControl and it helps to keep mine at bay for the most part. But, if that doesn't do the trick, they also have an acne line called All Clear. I've had many clients that use the All Clear after using/trying many other treatments out there and this works the best for them. As for me...Skinlogics is enough.
Hope that helps!
