www.DermTV.com Become a fan on facebook www.facebook.com For 20 years, the FDA has debated the safety of the use of benzoyl peroxide in the treatment of acne. In this episode of DermTV, Dr. Schultz discusses the outcome of that discussion. Is benzoyl peroxide safe?

Those of us with a sensitive skin can often use an 8 per cent BP product ( with NO alcohol ) most successfully by dotting it on developing problem spots and sleeping in it.
@tessab0o is that over the counter or prescription? :3
benzoyl peroxide causes premature aging =\
cute ending ;o)
@EmeraldButterfly241 prescription
Thank you for video! Should benzoyl peroxide be applied under or over the sunscreen?
@ItzDaTwiGGajD i don’t believe that at all.
Thanks. I’ve been 2% BP every morning and night for months now and my skin has never looked better.
love the ending
what are your thoughts on Accutane, Amnesteem, and so on
@ItzDaTwiGGajD You must have benzoyl peroxide confused with another product.
great video : D
awww….you’re awesome, doc! <3
I really thought it was common knowledge to use benzyl peroxide on acne?
This is the only product that got rid of my acne! Although I haven’t used it since my skin cleared because it’s really drying. What do you recommend as a more gentle, preventative acne treatment?
@sakuraness Why don’t you try using either a lower concentration or using the product less often? That should help cut down on the dryness significantly.
@hyritin Some specialists recommend using BP morning and night. Personally, I only use it at night because of how much it increases photosensitivity, at times, even with adequate sun protection.
Nonetheless, if you were to apply it in the morning, it would go on under sunscreen.
i was wondering. does aqueous ream cause acne..?? ive been using Johnson and Johnson’s aqueous cream since i started my accutane treatment and now that i\I am off it (don’t even have a trace of acne!) I’m still using it,, will it make me break out again…
@11Branx Aqueous cream is a light, non-greasy moisturizer that provides a layer of oil on the surface of the skin to prevent water from evaporating from the skin’s surface.
It is made from a mixture of emulsifying ointment and water, with an antimicrobial preservative.
When you ask if something causes acne, in most cases that is an impossible question to answer. What gives one person acne may never give another person so much as a blemish and vice versa.
Hope that helps you.
I friggen love you Dr Schultz!
Thanks for the insight. Benzoyl peroxide is about the only things that keeps my acne under control!
@raspberrypineapple He said this in the video, no need to repeat it. DO you hae to comment on everything in each video? You fill the comment section with your responses.
It’s not the FDA “CAN NEVER” declare anything 100% safe, they WON”T do that. They also declare things GRASE that ultimately aren’t,
I worked for the FDA as a biochemist. You have no idea what the FDA is truly like, until you are on the INside!
@mineralmu Why so mad? I am on the “inside.” I have dual degrees in organic and inorganic chemistry and have also worked for the FDA. If you don’t like my comments, you certainly needn’t read them. As for me, last time I checked this is a free country. I am going to enjoy that. I hope you learn how to do the same.
@raspberrypineapple Awesome. What state do/did you work for the FDA? What’s your opinion on the unregulated cosmetics industry? Do you stick with any particular makeup brands?
@11Branx Did it make you break out when you were on Accutane? Or before it?
